HealthTrust presents...”Atrial Fibrillation: Clinical Considerations and the Pharmacist’s Role in Management”

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a disease state that increases in prevalence with age and can cause a 5-fold increase in the risk of stroke. In this presentation, an overview of AF, including the pathophysiology, risk factors and diagnosis will be provided. Clinical considerations, including nuances of anticoagulation, rate control and rhythm control will be reviewed. Pharmacists are an integral part of the interdisciplinary approach to treating patients with AF; thus, their role will be discussed. The presentation will also review crucial literature related to AF and how these findings guide treatment strategy.

  1. Define the etiology and risk factors related to the development of atrial fibrillation.
