The current state of healthcare information technology in pharmacy is marked by a growing reliance on digital solutions to enhance patient care and streamline pharmacy operations. Pharmacies are increasingly adopting electronic health records (EHRs) and pharmacy management systems to improve medication management, patient safety and prescription filling processes. In this session, the presenter will highlight the evolving landscape of healthcare IT in pharmacy and its significance in providing efficient and high-quality pharmaceutical services while ensuring patient safety and compliance with regulatory requirements. The history, significance and rationale for implementing health information systems and technology will be discussed, followed by a description of the various types of healthcare information systems and their roles in the medication-use process, exploring the emergence of telehealth communications in healthcare, and discussing the future implications of health information technology, systems and automation, along with the impact on the future of pharmacy
personnel.
