Behavioral Health facilities and psychiatric hospitals are very different than general hospitals.  In fact, they are complete opposites in many ways.  This webinar will explore both why and how they are different as well as ways to determine which products are needed in the construction and maintenance of these facilities to help provide the highest level of safety for both the patients and staff.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain why behavioral healthcare units are different from general hospital units
  2. Describe how they are different including the code and regulatory requirements that permit these differences
  3. Identify references to use to obtain more information when needed
  4. Apply this information to determine appropriate products for use in these facilities to enhance safety for all occupants

Presenter:

James M. Hunt, AIA, is a practicing architect and facility management professional with 38 years of experience with behavioral healthcare design and operation. He was director of facilities management for the Menninger Clinic for 20 years. He is co-author of the “Design Guide for the Built Environment of Behavioral Health Facilities,” and is the president of Behavioral Health Facility Consulting, LLC, an organization that has consulted with behavioral health facilities and architects designing them on improving patient and staff safety in 30 states and Canada.

Participants will receive a certificate of attendance providing documentation for 1 credit hour of training.
