HealthTrust presents…”Resistance is Rising: Overview of Updated Guidance on Resistant Gram-Negative Infections”
Using antibiotics is essential in the treatment of many infections; however, organisms continue to develop resistance to antibiotics which limits the type of treatment options that can be used. The updated guidance document on treating resistant gram-negative infections that was released by the 2024 Infectious Disease Society of America Guidance Update on Treatment of Resistant Gram-Negative Infections in July, 2024, will be discussed, including a review of the resistant gram-negative infections, new recommendations and treatment strategies with an emphasis on which antimicrobials are preferred based on one large health system’s formulary.
Learning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses | At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
- Recall characteristics of resistant gram-negative organisms
- Identify evidence-based treatment options for each resistant gram-negative infection
- Recognize an evidence-based treatment regimen for a resistant gram-negative infection
Learning Objectives for Pharmacist Techs | At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
- Recall factors that contribute to antibiotic resistance
- Identify resistance mechanisms that gram-negative organisms can develop
- Recognize an antibiotic used for the treatment of resistant gram-negative infections
