HoverTech* presents…“Positioning for Safety: Ergonomic Strategies for Trendelenburg & Lithotomy in the OR”
This webinar explores the significant physical demands and safety challenges associated with positioning patients in these surgical postures. Focusing on the use of air-assisted technology, the presentation examines common ergonomic hazards for OR staff, such as shear forces, patient sliding, and limb manipulation as well as how they contribute to musculoskeletal injuries. It highlights evidence-based strategies, including the integration of air-assisted devices, to reduce both caregiver injury and patient harm. Through clinical examples, data, and implementation tips, the session emphasizes a proactive, team-based approach to safer intraoperative positioning aligned with AORN and ANA guidelines.
Learning Outcomes | At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
- Describe common ergonomic risks associated with Trendelenburg and lithotomy positioning in the operating room.
- Identify strategies and technologies, including air-assisted devices, that reduce injury risk during patient positioning.
- Apply safe patient handling principles to develop an evidence-based approach to high-risk OR positioning scenarios.
