In this presentation, the pathophysiology and management of sickle cell disease will be reviewed. Key components of the current guideline recommendations will be discussed with a highlight on pharmacology of pertinent prescription agents. Recent literature regarding new therapeutic options such as monoclonal antibodies and stem cell transplant will be introduced. Disease specific lifestyle modifications and preventative care will also be reviewed.

- Identify current therapeutic options for sickle cell disease
- Recognize the role of new therapeutic agents compared to current therapy in sickle cell disease management

- Recall the most common complications of sickle cell disease
- Identify pertinent medications in the treatment of sickle cell disease
- Recognize relevant dispensing information for newer therapeutic agents for sickle cell disease management
