HealthTrust & Avanos present…“Issues in Enteral Feeding: Aspiration”

While enteral nutrition can safely improve or maintain a patient’s nutritional status, complications have been associated with its delivery. Pulmonary aspiration is one of the most significant complications in patients receiving enteral nutrition, and aspiration pneumonia is among the leading causes of death in tube-fed patients. This program identifies complications associated with enteral nutrition and reviews the significance of aspiration in enterally fed patients. Prevention and management strategies for aspiration will be explored. The focus for this program is on adult patients receiving enteral nutrition in the hospital setting.

Learning Objectives for member attendees  |  At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify complications associated with enteral nutrition
  2. Explain the potential consequences of aspiration in patients receiving enteral nutrition
  3. Discuss steps that can be taken to prevent aspiration
