“High Flow Nasal Cannula and Non-Invasive Ventilation: Current Evidence and Practice”

Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is a widely used and studied therapy option for the management of acute respiratory failure. High flow nasal cannula is rapidly growing in popularity and in supportive evidence. This presentation will review the current evidence in support of NIV, and discuss the current research evaluating HFNC and its role in the management of respiratory failure.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. To review the evidence based practice of non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
  2. Describe the delivery and mechanism of action related to high flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
  3. To review the literature landscape comparing NIV to HFNC.
