The cardiac cath lab is a specialized environment where nurses play a vital role in ensuring safety for patients and staff. The cath lab environment presents unique risks, including radiation exposure, infection, vascular complications, cardiac arrythmias, and occupational hazards. This presentation highlights key safety concerns, reviews evidence-based practices to reduce risks, and applies strategies to support a culture of safety. Learners will be equipped with tools to protect themselves and their patients while providing high quality care.

Learning Objectives  |  At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify common safety hazards in the cardiac cath lab for nurses and patients.
  2. Discuss evidence-based practices and strategies to minimize risks.
  3. Apply proper use of protective equipment and patient mobility to enhance staff andpatient safety.
