Pharmacists share an integral role in ensuring appropriate and timely immunizations for patients. Other healthcare providers often rely on pharmacists as sources of information on drugs, including vaccines. An anonymous survey conducted among pharmacists at two practice sites within Atlantic Health System revealed the largest gaps in knowledge and areas of interest as Td/dap, pneumococcal, and meningococcal vaccine recommendations. How can pharmacists best provide up-to-date and accurate information to patients and other healthcare providers? This program will provide a broad overview of the current vaccine recommendations for adults and pediatrics with an emphasis on Td/Tdap, pneumococcal, and meningococcal vaccines. Other topics addressed will include disease information, vaccine indications, and important warnings and precautions to assist attendees in making effective clinical decisions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the clinical and financial implications that drive the recommendation to immunize patients
  2. Compare and analyze Td/Tdap, pneumococcal, and meningococcal vaccine recommendations
  3. Demonstrate appropriate clinical decisions regarding patient immunizations using a knowledge of immunization schedules and current guidelines
