This session will focus on the most recent rendition of the ATS/ERS/ESCMID/IDSA Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Pulmonary Disease. The clinical presentation, epidemiology, risk factors for MAC pulmonary disease, pathophysiology and current guideline recommendations for the assessment and treatment of MAC pulmonary disease will be discussed. An analysis of primary literature evaluating the use of various treatment regimens for MAC pulmonary disease will be shared including a summary of key results from studies that analyze the drug composition, dosing frequency, and duration of treatment regimens as well as identification of subgroups that will benefit from aggressive therapy.

- Recall current guideline recommendations for the treatment of mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) pulmonary disease.
- Identify antimicrobial pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic principles in a regimen for the treatment of MAC pulmonary disease.
- Recognize an effective treatment regimen for a patient with MAC pulmonary disease based upon macrolide susceptibility and patient-specific characteristics.
