HealthTrust presents…“Updates in the Management of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia: A Focus on Targeted Therapies”

Treatment strategies for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) have evolved rapidly within the past several years. Whereas chemoimmunotherapy was traditionally considered the mainstay of therapy, regimens containing novel, targeted agents, such as ibrutinib, acalabrutinib, and venetoclax, are now preferred in most patients with CLL. In many cases, treatment selection
depends on a combination of factors, including the fitness of the patient, presence or absence of certain cancer mutations, potential for side effects and drug interactions, and patient preference for duration of therapy.  During this session, the current recommendations for management of CLL and the considerations for treatment selection will be reviewed.

Learning Objectives for Nurses & Pharmacists  |  At the end of this session, participants should be able to

  1. List the currently preferred regimens for treatment of CLL according to disease- and patient-specific factors.
  2. Describe the considerations for selecting one regimen over another.
  3. Provide appropriate counseling to patients taking targeted therapies, drawing attention to potential side effects, drug interactions, and treatment durations.
