With an emphasis on the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia, this webinar will focus on the components of tracheostomy tubes including the different tube materials such as cuffed, cuffless, fenestrated tracheostomy tubes, SSD and others. Considerations for how to choose the right tracheostomy technology for the right patient will also be presented. Common adverse events, including respiratory infections, will be discussed. Finally, the speakers will provide an evidence-based overview of tracheostomy care.

Learning Objectives  |  After this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss the different tracheostomy tube types and their impact on VAP
  2. Describe the criteria for tube selection that minimizes the risk for VAP
  3. Describe the evidence to support the care of a patient with a tracheostomy
