“Sepsis Care Across the Continuum: A Virtual Collaborative Summit”

Background:

In the United States, 1.7 million adults develop sepsis each year, and the condition accounts for 270,000 deaths annually. It is the leading cause of death in U. S. Hospitals.¹ At more than $24 billion in hospital’s expenses, this life-threatening illness was the most costly condition for hospital admissions. Cost and length of stay progressively increase with the severity of this illness, making early detection and treatment critical components in any protocol.² Facilities that have developed solid protocols for early detection and treatment continue to struggle with transitioning care from unit to unit and from hospital to home. Strategic approaches that address care across the continuum will ensure effective and efficient treatment of this complex population. The goal of this two-day collaborative summit is to serve as a platform for participants to interact with peers and subject matter experts to learn best practices, discuss the latest evidence and develop viable action plans for their health system to address early recognition and treatment of sepsis across the continuum of care. Participants can also expect to gain a network of peers engaged for continued interaction and learning.

Format:

The two-day Virtual Collaborative Summit* is unlike most industry meetings and conferences. It is a highly interactive workshop experience, with participating health systems identifying small teams (4-5 leaders) who will complete a brief learning module before the summit to lay the groundwork for the virtual event.

*Participating attendees must complete the pre-work and attend both sessions of the virtual event.

Topics to be Addressed:

  • Sepsis Recognition: Tools and Systems
  • Standardization of Care: Therapy, Hemodynamic Support, and Antibiotic Stewardship
  • Sepsis in Transition: Unit to Unit, Hospital to Home
  • Quality and Data Analytics: Using Data to Drive Change

Target Audience:

HealthTrust members are invited to send a team of 4-5 individuals from their health system to participate in the summit and identify representation from the following disciplines: lab, pharmacy, physicians, nurses and clinical leadership. Space is limited to 40 attendees. Participants should be able to complete the self-driven learning module in advance as well as attend both days of the virtual event.

Agenda:

  • Monday, October 18: Virtual, self-driven learning module delivered by email
  • Tuesday, October 26:  8:00-10:30 AM, CDT
  • Wednesday, October 27:  1:00-4:00 PM, CDT

Cost: There is no cost for HealthTrust members to attend this virtual event.
