“Safe Securement to Skin: Thinking Differently About Medical Tape & Its Impact on Patient Outcomes”

3M Health Care Academy* presents…“Safe Securement to Skin: Thinking Differently About Medical Tape & Its Impact on Patient Outcomes”

Filling the bins of every supply room and carried into virtually every patient room is one of the oldest, most widely-used medical technologies – medical tape. Throughout care settings, there is a perception that “tape is tape” – that there isn’t much to it. If it sticks and does its job, there really isn’t a need for more understanding, right? Actually, there is much more to medical tape than you may think and its use in the care you provide can significantly impact outcomes.

Join presenters as they explore a novel approach to thinking about tape that can help reduce complications, provide insight into factors that influence appropriate tape selection, and discuss how considering tape as a critical medical technology can translate to improved patient, clinical and financial outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe current perceptions of medical tape and factors that influence its use
  2. Identify common types of medical tape, adhesive differences and how science is contributing to adhesive innovation and quality
  3. Explain the importance of proper tape selection and use
  4. Discuss how thinking about tape differently can impact outcomes

Presenters:

Denise Ziemann, RN, BSN & Kimberly Schommer, RN, BSN, VA-BC
