HealthTrust presents…“Pediatric Immunizations Update: The Expanding Role of Pharmacy Personnel”

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a decline in outpatient pediatric visits and fewer vaccines administered. During the pandemic, the pharmacists role in administrating vaccinations to the pediatric population has expanded. Traditionally, pharmacists did not participate in this practice and gaps in knowledge may be present for pediatric vaccinations. Various immunization schedule changes have been implemented as well. During this session, the childhood immunization schedule for patients 3 to 10 years old will be discussed, along with respective clinical presentations and complications. Child immunization schedule changes (2020) will be reported as well as Health and Human Services (HHS) updates regarding childhood vaccine access expansion during the pandemic. The session will conclude with a patient case to apply appropriateness of select vaccinations.

Learning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses | At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. List common vaccinations indicated for the pediatric population discussed.
  2. Discuss current vaccination recommendations based on individual patient factors.
  3. Recommend appropriate vaccinations based on patient factors including age and vaccination history.
