“Neonatal Skin Care: State of the Science and Ongoing Challenges”

The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) presents…”Neonatal Skin Care: State of the Science and Ongoing Challenges”

The skin is one of the most important organs at birth, and skin care provided during the newborn period may have short and long-term effects which can extend into infancy and beyond. During the first days and months of life, proper neonatal skin care is essential for newborns. Learn the most current research and practice recommendations to improve and maintain neonatal skin integrity for both healthy and high-risk neonates.

Join this free, live webinar to:

  • Identify the steps for prevention and treatment of diaper dermatitis
  • Describe the treatment of neonatal skin breakdown for healthy and high-risk newborns
  • Recall the emollients used for prevention of atopic dermatitis

Presenter:

Debra Brandon, PhD, RN, CNS, FAAN, served as leader of the science committee. She is an Associate Professor and Director of the PhD Program at Duke University School of Nursing and a Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Intensive Care Nursery of Duke University Medical Center. She has over 40 years’ experience in neonatology and infant development. Dr. Brandon’s program of research focuses on understanding the impact of the environment of care in neonatal units on the health and development of high-risk infants with an overall goal of implementing interventions to improve the short- and long-term outcomes of both infants and their families. Her research includes interventions to maximize skin health and development in preterm infants. She is currently the lead for a research project to understand the impact of clustered caregiving on skin health.
