HealthTrust presents...”Duration of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy (DAPT) after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)”
Please Note: Continuing education credit is only available to those attending the session live. CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand.
Following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), the use of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) decreases ischemic events and prevents stent thrombosis, but also increases the risk of bleeding. Previous guidelines recommended 6-12 months of DAPT for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) without high bleeding risk. Recently, multiple trials have been published analyzing the safety and efficacy of short-duration DAPT followed by antiplatelet monotherapy. In 2021 ACC/AHA/SCAI released updated revascularization guidelines recommending 1-3 months of DAPT in select patients. The purpose of this presentation is to analyze the data to determine the optimal duration of DAPT following PCI.
Learning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses | At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
- Describe current consensus recommendations for duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
- Analyze literature and strategies for short-duration DAPT
- Design an appropriate duration of therapy for DAPT for a patient undergoing PCI
