HealthTrust presents…“Don’t Be A Pain! An Update on the Pharmacological Management of Migraine”
Migraine is a common neurological disease that can heavily impact the ability to perform daily activities. Many medications are available to either help relieve acute migraines or prevent their onset, with newer agents being developed and entering the market in recent years, namely within the class of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) antagonists. Educational gaps in migraine management will be addressed by providing a review of agents that have been historically used for the treatment of migraines and evaluating the therapeutic roles of the newer agents.
Learning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses | At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
- Recall the epidemiology, pathophysiology and diagnosis of migraine
- Recognize FDA-approved treatment options for migraines and their place in therapy
- Identify pertinent counseling points for patients on pharmacological agents for the treatment or prevention of migraine
Learning Objectives for Pharmacy Techs | At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
- Recall over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription options that can be used to manage migraine
- Recognize what formulations are available for each migraine agent
- Identify appropriate storage requirements for different migraine medications
