“Beyfortus: A Shot at Protection Against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) for Infants & Neonates”

March 11 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

HealthTrust presents…“Beyfortus: A Shot at Protection Against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) for Infants & Neonates”

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common and highly contagious respiratory virus that is currently the leading cause of hospitalization in infants under 12 months of age due to lower respiratory tract infections and serious lung conditions. Prevention options have been historically limited, but the introduction of Beyfortus (nirsevimab), a monoclonal antibody injection, provides a new opportunity for season long passive immunity. Understanding the evidence of efficacy and safety in preventing hospitalization, intubation, and/or steroid use in neonates and infants is essential for optimizing pediatric care during RSV season.

Learning Objectives | At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. Recall the mechanism of action and role of nirsevimab (Beyfortus) in
preventing respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants.
  2.  Identify current evidence-based recommendations from the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of
Pedictrics (AAP) regarding eligibility and timing for nirsevimab (Beyfortus)
    administration.
  3. Recognize the key clinical evidence and best practices supporting the safety
and efficacy of nirsevimab (Beyfortus) in the infant population.
