HealthTrust presents…“2021 Update to the Sexually Transmitted Infections Treatment Guidelines”

Patients commonly present to healthcare settings for the management of sexually transmitted diseases. Pharmacists are often consulted on the appropriate pharmacologic management of these patients in the emergency department and other ambulatory settings. Confusion frequently arises due to the type of exposure, availability of therapies and the potential complications of medication allergies. This session will review the most recent update to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Sexually Transmitted Infections Treatment Guidelines, which were last published in 2015. The program will highlight key updates to dosing and alternative medication recommendations.

Learning Objectives  |  At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. List available drugs for the treatment and prophylaxis of common sexually transmitted infections
  2. Recommend appropriate pharmacologic therapy and medication dosing depending on indication
  3. Explain key counseling points including drug adverse reactions for pharmacologic therapy
