Nurse.com* presents…“Active Shooter Training for Healthcare Professionals – What You Need to Know”

This webinar will discuss survival steps attendees can take in the event of an active shooter event occurring at the workplace. The topics covered will include: developing a mindset of action and survival during active shooter incidents, preparing for critical incidents in the workplace, actions to take in active shooter situations, law enforcement response to critical incidents and steps to take when confronted by first responders, emergency action plans in healthcare facilities, and characteristics of active shooter situations.

The goal of this presentation is to outline specific, easy-to-remember objectives for healthcare providers to learn in response to an active shooter incident. In addition, by increasing awareness and discussing various conditions and scenarios, individual facilities can develop unique response plans to address this potential danger.

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  1. Review statistics and trends on active shooter incidents
  2. Explain the natural responses of the human body when exposed to danger
  3. Discuss how members of the interprofessional team can conduct on site assessments and prepare for environmental threats
  4. Review strategies on fighting back if the situation dictates
  5. Evaluate and discuss the Run, Hide, Fight method of addressing active shooters and review ways in which training can be incorporated into institution protocols
