“Positioning for Comfort and Growth”

Advances in neonatal care have led to significant changes in the survival rates of high-risk babies, although there remains significant morbidity related to the individual neonate’s immaturity, prematurity and severity of disease. Positioning and developmental care practices may help to mitigate related complications by promoting positive growth and healing. This CE activity will discuss motor and musculoskeletal development, the use of therapeutic positioning, and positioning to prevent unplanned extubation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe key aspects of motor and musculoskeletal development
  2. Discuss the use of therapeutic positioning
  3. Identify protocols that may be used for positioning for sleep
  4. Discuss positioning to prevent unplanned extubation
