Flexible and semi-rigid endoscopes are complex instruments with many parts (e.g., insertion tubes, lenses, port covers and valves) for use in various body cavities for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.  In the United States alone, at least 11 million gastrointestinal endoscopies are performed annually and the number of procedures is only expected to increase. This document provides details on the proper use and care of flexible endoscopes.
