Biosurgical Hemostatic Agents

Poor bleeding control leads to untoward patient outcomes and increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. Some 29.9% of surgical procedures experience bleeding complications, resulting in an average of six additional hospital days. Hemostats, while not a substitute for surgical technique, are a tool used by surgeons to control surgical bleeding. This document provides an overview of these products, clinical practice guidance and current evidence regarding their use.
