HealthTrust presents…”Perioperative Pregabalin & Ketamine as Multimodal Pain Management Strategies”

The efficacy, safety and dosing of pregabalin and ketamine as components of a perioperative multimodal pain management strategy are not well defined. However, adjunctive drug therapy is of increasing interest in order to improve postoperative pain relief and decrease opioid consumption. This session will review the current practices for dosage of perioperative pregabalin and ketamine. The presenter will review minor and major surgical procedures which have utilized pregabalin or ketamine as a component of a multimodal pain management strategy including efficacy and safety outcomes and dosing regimens. A study conducted at Parham Doctors’ Hospital utilizing these agents in bariatric surgery will demonstrate the potential usefulness for improving pain control and reducing opioid consumption warranting ongoing investigation in all surgery types.

  3. Discuss the major findings of a retrospective study utilizing pregabalin and ketamine as a multimodal pain management strategy within the bariatric surgery program at Parham Doctors’ Hospital.
