Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS) is the 5th leading cause of death in the United States. Large vessel occlusions (LVO) are particularly disabling & life threatening. Mechanical thrombectomy with stent retrievers, aspiration catheters or both has been established as an appropriate treatment modality with effective recanalization rates acheived in 58-88% of patients and functional independance in 53-71% of patients.
