Carotid Artery Stenting & Embolic Protection Devices
Carotid artery stents are self-expanding, bare metal stents inserted into the carotid arteries to expand the lumen and establish carotid revascularization. The stents, which are typically pre-loaded on a delivery system, are deployed into the carotid arteries via a femoral or direct carotid approach. Carotid stenting is often performed in conjunction with specifically indicated embolic protection devices designed to contain and remove embolic material. New to the horizon of carotid revascularization is transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR), which is showing promise in this space.
