This activity is intended for physicians and nurses who work in emergency departments and critical care settings. The goal of this activity is to improve the understanding of the use of biomarkers in the diagnosis and management of sepsis.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Use clinical and laboratory information to differentiate among the conditions in the spectrum of sepsis
  2. Make decisions reflecting the appropriate use of biomarkers in the patient with suspected or known sepsis
  3. Identify the characteristics of an ideal biomarker for use in the patient with suspected or known sepsis
