SUMMARY:"Does the Nose Know? The Value of MRSA Nares Swab in Skin & Soft Tissue Infections"
DESCRIPTION:HealthTrust presents...”Does the Nose Know? The Value of MRSA Nares Swab in Skin & Soft Tissue Infections” \n \n  \nDownload the content. \nPlease Note: Continuing education credit is only available to those attending the session live. CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand. \nStaphylococcus aureus is known to be colonized in the nares\, throat\, axillae\, rectum\, and groin. Colonization with Staphylococcus aureus often precedes clinical infection. The methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) nasal polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a well-established test to identify patients who are colonized with MRSA. This test is noninvasive\, highly sensitive\, and has a fast turnaround time. The value of the MRSA nasal PCR for pulmonary infections is well-established through various studies\, but its utility for non-pulmonary infections is still under investigation. The MRSA nasal PCR is currently utilized to guide antibiotic treatment in pneumonia\, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America states that a negative MRSA nasal PCR can be used to discontinue anti-MRSA coverage. There is growing evidence that the MRSA nasal PCR can be used outside of current indications. The presenter will review literature and assess the strengths and limitations for using the MRSA nasal PCR for skin and soft tissue infections. \nLearning Objectives for Pharmacists\, Nurses & Lab professionals  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nRecall the current indications indications for the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) nasal polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.\nIdentify studies that have utilized the MRSA nasal PCR in skin and soft tissue infections\nRecognize the clinical utility for the MRSA nasal PCR in skin and soft tissue infections\n\nPresenter: \n \nGabby Hill\, PharmD  |  PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident  |  McLeod Health \nTarget Audience: Pharmacists\, Nurses & Lab professionals \nCE Credit: Approved for Pharmacists & Nurses; pending for Lab professionals \nThis program is approved for CPEs by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). SUMMARY:"Who's the Real Alfa? Andexanet Alfa versus 4F-PCC for Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOAC) Reversal"
DESCRIPTION:HealthTrust presents…“Who’s the Real Alfa? Andexanet Alfa versus 4F-PCC for Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOAC) Reversal” \n \nDownload the content \nPlease Note: Continuing education credit is only available to those attending the session live. CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand. \nBefore approval of andexanet alfa (Andexxa)\, off-label treatment with 4-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC) was the unquestioned first line therapy for the management of life-threatening hemorrhages related to the use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC). The approval of Andexxa sparked an ongoing debate among clinicians regarding which agent should be used for reversal of life-threatening hemorrhages associated with oral factor Xa inhibitors. Even the agents considered the safest such as rivaroxaban and apixaban come with significant risk. These agents are associated with intracranial bleeding rates of up to 4% and in-hospital mortality rates of up to 40%. As the use of these DOACs becomes more prevalent\, there needs to be a clear and concise recommendation regarding reversal of these agents. Current literature will be presented around which option is the safest and most effective for reversal of hemorrhage related to these products\, so that attendees can make an informed decision on which option is the safest and most effective for reverasal of hemorrhage related to these products. \nLearning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nRecall the mechanisms of action of four-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC) and andexanet alfa\nIdentify the outcomes of studies utilizing 4F-PCC and andexanet alfa for direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) reversal\nDescribe the pros and cons of 4F-PCC and andexanet alfa use in DOAC reversal\n\nPresenter: \n \nHarrison Hyman\, PharmD  |  PGY-1 Resident  |  McLeod Health \nTarget Audience: Pharmacists\, Nurses &  Physicians \nCE Credit: Approved for Pharmacists &  Nurses \nThis program is approved for CPEs by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). SUMMARY:"Present Use & Future Directions of Bispecific Molecules in Relapsed or Refractory Multiple Myeloma"
DESCRIPTION:HealthTrust presents…“Present Use & Future Directions of Bispecific Molecules in Relapsed or Refractory Multiple Myeloma” \n \nDownload the content. \nPlease Note: Continuing education credit is only available to those attending the session live. CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand. \nMultiple myeloma is a malignant neoplasm of plasma cells in the blood that accumulate in the bone marrow\, leading to blood dyscrasias\, bone damage\, infections\, and renal damage. Due to the incurable nature of the malignancy\, patients may undergo several lines of treatment. Multiple myeloma remains incurable\, therefore\, the development of additional options for relapsed or refractory disease is vital. Approved therapies have shown success targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA); however\, additional targets are being explored in clinical trials. Due to the evolving nature of oncology\, pharmacists are consistently introduced to new therapies and thus should be familiar with those in development. This session will focus on current FDA-approved bispecific molecules\, differentiating between bispecific antibodies and bispecific T-cell engagers\, toxicities associated with these therapies\, and current NCCN guideline recommendations. Ongoing clinical trials and advances in bispecific research will also be provided to highlight the evolving future of these agents. \nLearning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nRecall the current landscape of bispecific molecule treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma\nIdentify the differences between current FDA approved bispecific antibodies and bispecific T-cell engagers\nRecognize treatment strategies currently being utilized in bispecific molecule clinical trials\n\nPresenter: \n \nBrielle Stawicki\, PharmD  |  PGY-1 Resident  |  Atlantic Health System \nTarget Audience: Pharmacists\, Nurses &  Physicians \nCE Credit: Approved for Pharmacists & Nurses \nThis program is approved for CPEs by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
