SUMMARY:Clinical Considerations: Myocarditis and Pericarditis after Receipt of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines Among Adolescents and Young Adults
DESCRIPTION:The CDC Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA)* presents…Clinical Considerations: Myocarditis and Pericarditis after Receipt of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines Among Adolescents and Young Adults \nSince April 2021\, increased cases of myocarditis and pericarditis have been reported in the United States after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is aware of these reports\, which are rare given the number of vaccine doses administered. \nCDC published clinical considerations for myocarditis and pericarditis following COVID-19 vaccination. In addition\, resources for the public have been added to CDC’s website that can be a resource for your patients. CDC and its partners are actively monitoring these reports by reviewing data and medical records to learn more about what happened and to see if there is any relationship to COVID-19 vaccination. Please report all cases of myocarditis and pericarditis post COVID-19 vaccination to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). \nCDC continues to recommend COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 12 years of age and older\, given the greater risk of COVID-19 illness and related\, possibly severe complications. \nQuestions? Contact the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention: 1-800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636)   TTY: 888-232-6348 \n* NOTE: This is an industry resource and/or supplier-sponsored publication. SUMMARY:"Leveraging Evidence\, Interdisciplinary Approaches and Material Engineering to Increase Compliance & Obtain Clinical Benefits with Compression Therapy"
DESCRIPTION:Urgo Medical North America* presents…”Leveraging Evidence\, Interdisciplinary Approaches and Material Engineering to Increase Compliance & Obtain Clinical Benefits with Compression Therapy” \nIt is well known that compression therapy is the cornerstone of therapeutic management of patients with chronic venous insufficiency\, however\, poor adherence to treatment remains a clinical challenge. Consistent\, continuous application of therapeutic pressure\, as well as comfortable wear of the bandage are all essential for compliance driven therapeutic benefits\, with comfort of wear being the greatest determinant of compression treatment compliance. All of this is achievable via the use of sophisticated fabric and material engineering in creating bandaging systems. This session will highlight the efficacy and safety profile of a two-layer novel Dual Compression System\, that uniquely incorporates both short and long stretch bandages for supporting healing of venous leg ulcers and improving patients quality of life. Panelists will translate the growing evidence base supporting the use of this compression system with published clinical studies\, including RCTS\, and real life case studies. \nPresenters: \n\nEmily Greenstein\, APRN\, CNP\, CWON\, FACCWS  |  Certified Nurse Practitioner  |  Sanford Health\n\nJohn C. SUMMARY:"Demystifying the Science & Clinical Application of Cleansers With Antimicrobial Preservatives: Differentiating Among Hypochlorous Acid\, Hypochlorite & PHMB"
DESCRIPTION:Urgo Medical North America* presents…”Demystifying the Science & Clinical Application of Cleansers With Antimicrobial Preservatives: Differentiating Among Hypochlorous Acid\, Hypochlorite & PHMB” \nHypochlorous acid (HOCI) plays a critical role in the human response to invading microbes and as such is not alien to human tissue. For safe use and storage of cleansing products\, clinicians often choose a product containing antimicrobial preservatives. Due to its nonalien nature in relation to human tissue\, when cleansers containing the powerful antimicrobial preservative HOCl is exposed to wound cells\, there appears to be minimal toxicity compared to toxicity reported with other antimicrobial preservatives. In particular\, confusion exists in the understanding of cytotoxicity effects of hypochlorous acid versus the similar sounding hypochlorite preservative and other high pH cleansers\, though evidence shows there are significant toxicity differences between these two chlorine-based preservatives. Led by an interdisciplinary panel of leading experts\, this session will differentiate the cytotoxicity of various antimicrobial preservatives available in wound cleansers and examine the biological/tissue impact of choosing one preservative over the other. The panel will translate the science and clinical background to an algorithmic approach to inpatient care through clinical cases. \nPresenters: \n\nPaul J.
