SUMMARY:“Clinically Indicated Peripheral Vascular Access Care & Maintenance: Addressing Current Standards With Evidence-based Practice”
DESCRIPTION:3M Healthcare Academy* presents…“Clinically Indicated Peripheral Vascular Access Care & Maintenance: Addressing Current Standards With Evidence-based Practice” \nPeripheral vascular access is often considered a simple\, low risk procedure compared to other types of vascular access when\, in fact\, peripheral IVs are associated with significant complications and cost. Despite being one of the most common invasive interventions\, care and maintenance of peripheral IVs is frequently inconsistent between healthcare workers. There is a shift in the removal of peripheral IVs as more facilities implement protocols which call for clinically-indicated removal. This approach necessitates consistency in the care of these devices to help reduce complication risk. The presenter will explore the potential benefits of such a policy to the patient and healthcare facility\, what practice changes are needed as a result\, and how to influence and support staff to achieve quality patient outcomes. \nLearning Objectives  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nIdentify current clinical standards addressing peripheral vascular care\nDiscuss clinical challenges associated with peripheral catheter maintenance that can impact outcomes\nDescribe recommended practices and evidence-based interventions for peripheral catheter maintenance\nIdentify potential solutions to address these challenges and clinical studies that support these solutions\n\nPresenter \n \nWhitney Ficocello\, BSN\, RN\, PHN  |  Technical Service Engineer  |  3M Medical Solutions Division \nTarget audience: Nurses \nContinuing education information: 3M is an approved provider by The California Board of Registered Nursing\, Provider Number CEP 5770.  This program provides 1 CE contact hour of Nursing CE. \nQuestions should be directed to 3M: jhager.cw@mmm.com \n*NOTE: This is a contracted supplier-sponsored webinar. SUMMARY:"Issues in Enteral Feeding: Malnutrition"
DESCRIPTION:Download a copy of this content. \nAccess the recording. \nHealthTrust & Avanos present…”Issues in Enteral Feeding: Malnutrition” \nThe prevalence of malnutrition in developed countries has been estimated to be 1-15 percent of non-institutionalized older adults\, 25-60 percent of older adults in geriatric care facilities\, and 35-65 percent of older adults in hospitals. Several studies have also reported a prevalence of illness-related malnutrition of 6-51 percent in hospitalized children. By identifying patients with\, or at risk for malnutrition\, nurses and dietitians in the hospital setting can initiate nutrition interventions and optimize clinical outcomes. This program provides an explanation of the causes\, risk factors and potential complications of malnutrition in the hospital setting. Indicators of malnutrition are described\, and the use of enteral and parenteral feeding is discussed. The importance of establishing a multidisciplinary care model to improve nutrition intervention is reviewed. \nLearning Objectives for member attendees  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nExplain why malnutrition is a significant clinical problem in acute healthcare settings.\nDescribe how to recognize when a patient is malnourished and would benefit from nutritional support.\nDiscuss the use of enteral and parenteral feeding in malnourished patients.\nSummarize the importance of establishing a multidisciplinary care team to improve nutrition intervention.\n\nPresenter: \n \nKathleen Stoessel\, RN\, BSN\, MS  |  Clinical Education Industry Consultant \nTarget Audience: Nurses & Registered Dietitians \nContinuing Education Information for Nurses & Registered Dietitians: California Board of Nursing\, Pfiedler Education is a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing\, Provider Number CEP14944\, for 1 contact hour. SUMMARY:“Going Plant-centered for Patients & Planet"
DESCRIPTION:Practice Greenhealth’s Greenhealth Academy* presents…“Going Plant-centered for Patients & Planet” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFood production is a significant contributor to climate change\, accounting for nearly a quarter of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Animal-based foods account for two-thirds of agricultural GHG emissions and more than three-quarters of agricultural land use\, while plant-based foods have much lower environmental impacts. As people strive to make more healthy and sustainable food choices\, they are becoming increasingly interested in plant-centered foods. Health care facilities can meet this demand and elevate their climate change strategies by reducing animal-based foods and increasing plant-centered options. This webinar will introduce the Cool Food Pledge\, a new platform to help hospitals\, universities\, businesses\, and cities offer diners more of what they want while slashing food-related greenhouse gas emissions. Learn how to participate in the Cool Food Pledge and how committing can benefit a facility’s triple bottom line. \nGain insight on how: \n\nMenu and food procurement choices affect the climate\nHospitals can achieve climate and health goals using the Cool Food Pledge\nPlant-centered menus respond to consumer trends\nHospitals can participate in the Cool Food Pledge\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is no cost associated with this webinar. \nTo request a Practice Greenhealth account to access this and other Greenhealth Academy events\, click here. \n* NOTE: This is an industry resource-sponsored webinar. SUMMARY:“Venous Leg Ulcer Management Principles”
DESCRIPTION:WoundSource* presents…“Venous Leg Ulcer Management Principles” \nVenous disease is the most common cause of lower extremity ulceration\, occurring in 3% of those above the age of 80. The pathophysiology of venous ulcers is complex\, with multiple theories suggested. One of the problems related to venous ulcer management lies within the research-to-practice gap. While clinical practice guidelines exist\, implementation of these is often inconsistent. \nThe goal of this program is to delineate management of venous ulcers based on research and summarize guidelines proposed by different organizations in a practical and clinically applicable manner. \nDuring this program\, participants will learn: \n\nThe causes of venous ulcers\nEvaluation of patients with venous ulcers\nProcedural interventions that can help reach closure in venous ulcers\nThe role of compression therapy in venous ulcer management\nMedications and topical therapy effective in treating venous ulcers\nLifestyle and cost considerations in the management of venous ulcers\n\nVenous ulceration is a complex medical condition that requires knowledge of underlying causes\, pathology\, and management strategies. Management is often focused on local wound care and compression therapy; however\, effective management goes far beyond this approach. \nPresenter: \n \nKaren Bauer\, NP-C\, CWS  |  Director of Wound Service  |  University of Toledo|  Division of Vascular\, Endovascular & Wound Surgery \nTarget audience: Nursing \nQuestions should be directed to WoundSource.  (800) 787-1931 \nThis program is sponsored by essity. \n* NOTE: This is a supplier and industry resource-sponsored webinar.
