DESCRIPTION:As part of its Neonatal Education Series 2018\, Saxe Communications and Philips Healthcare present a  Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Webinars Series \n(See also: Part 1: “Assessment of Infants With NAS” [offered Feb. 21\, 2018]) \n“Management of Infants with NAS\, Therapeutic Interventions” (Part 2 of 2) \nWed.\, May 2\, 2018\, 11AM – 12PM (Central) \nNeonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) can be potentially severe and cause long hospital stays. Pharmacological interventions are commonly used as treatment and their safety and efficacy is continuing to be studied. Non-pharmacologic interventions and complementary therapies have also been documented. This presentation will discuss the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic goals of treating infants with NAS. There will also be a discussion of the most common drugs used to manage signs of withdrawal and two different strategies\, weight based vs sign based\, to determine when pharmacologic treatment is needed. However\, adjunctive drug therapy is of increasing interest in order to improve postoperative pain relief and decrease opioid consumption. This session will review the current practices for dosage of perioperative pregabalin and ketamine. The presenter will review minor and major surgical procedures which have utilized pregabalin or ketamine as a component of a multimodal pain management strategy including efficacy and safety outcomes and dosing regimens.
