DESCRIPTION:The Green Electronics Council* presents…“Updated Environmental & Social Criteria for EPEAT-registered Computers & Displays” \nThe EPEAT Computer and Display category is getting an update later this year\, and EPEAT is recommending some changes in purchasing requirements. The updated category\, which launches in November\, will differ from the existing category in three major ways: \n\nIncreased focus on priority impacts – including climate change\, chemicals\, and resource consumption\nExpanded sustainability attributes with the inclusion of social impact criteria\nGreater focus on supply chain transparency and impacts\n\nIt is very likely that the majority of the products registered to the new criteria may only achieve an EPEAT Bronze rating. This is because the new criteria are much more rigorous\, and it is likely that a Bronze-registered product under the new criteria will exceed the sustainability features of a Gold-registered product under the old criteria. By focusing on impact\, sustainability and supply chain transparency\, there is no need to specify an EPEAT tier. The presenter will highlight some of the steps Boston Medical Center has taken using its Environmental Services program as a stepping stone to creating a diverse sustainability program. The session will offer ideas that drive results\, including how to get started\, and applying some easy wins to build a robust environmentally conscious program that touches your entire organization.
