SUMMARY:"Testing and Treatment of 2020-2021 Seasonal Influenza During the COVID-19 Pandemic"
DESCRIPTION:The CDC Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA)* presents...”Testing and Treatment of 2020-2021 Seasonal Influenza During the COVID-19 Pandemic” \nInfluenza surveillance data reported to the World Health Organization’s FluNet platform from three Southern Hemisphere countries (Australia\, Chile\, and South Africa) indicated low influenza activity during June through August 2020\, months that comprise the typical Southern Hemisphere influenza season. The low influenza activity observed in the Southern Hemisphere might reflect the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions implemented to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2\, the virus that causes COVID-19. However\, it is not possible to predict influenza activity or the severity of the upcoming influenza season in the United States with the potential for co-circulation of influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2. While vaccination remains the best way to prevent influenza\, antiviral medications are an essential adjunct to vaccination—especially for treating outpatients with suspected or confirmed influenza\, in persons at high risk for influenza complications\, in those with progressive disease\, and hospitalized influenza patients.\nDuring this COCA call\, clinicians will hear an overview of CDC’s recommendations for health care providers regarding influenza diagnostics and the use of antiviral medications for the 2020-2021 influenza season\, including considerations during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. \nLearning Objectives  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nReview influenza activity since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.\nProvide background on influenza tests and antivirals for influenza.\nDescribe influenza testing guidance for patients with acute respiratory illness for the 2020-2021 season\, including during community co-circulation of influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2.\nDescribe antiviral treatment recommendations for patients with suspected or confirmed influenza for the 2020-2021 season\, including during community co-circulation of influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2.\n\nPresenters: \nAngela Campbell\, MD\, MPH\, FIDSA\, FPIDS Medical Officer\, Influenza Division  |  National Center for Immunization & Respiratory Diseases  |  Centers for Disease Control & Prevention \nTimothy Uyeki\, MD\, MPH\, MPP\, CAPT\, USPHS   |Chief Medical Officer\, Influenza Division  |  National Center for Immunization & Respiratory Diseases  |  Centers for Disease Control & Prevention \nContinuing Education information: To receive continuing education (CE) for WC2922-091720 – Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA) Calls/Webinars – Testing and Treatment of 2020-2021 Seasonal Influenza During the COVID-19 Pandemic\, Thursday\, September 17\, 2020\, please visit TCEO and follow these 9 Simple Steps by Monday\, October 19\, 2020.  To receive continuing education (CE) for WD2922-091720 – Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA) Calls/Webinars – Testing and Treatment of 2020-2021 Seasonal Influenza During the COVID-19 Pandemic\, Thursday\, September 17\, 2020\, (Web on Demand)\, please visit TCEO and follow these 9 Simple Steps by Thursday\, October 20\, 2022. \nCME: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. SUMMARY:"Implementing Next-generation Sequencing for Precision Oncology Testing"
DESCRIPTION:Fisher Scientific* presents….”Implementing Next-generation Sequencing for Precision Oncology Testing” \nAccording to a recent study by the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development\, the majority of cancer treatments in development have an associated genomic biomarker—a trend that’s expected to increase in the coming years. With this evolution in the clinical oncology landscape\, academic medical centers and hospital systems alike have adopted diagnostic precision medicine tools like next generation sequencing (NGS)\, which enables labs to rapidly and simultaneously test multiple genomic biomarkers from just a few nanograms of precious tumor tissue.  As the number of clinically significant biomarkers continues to expand\, this testing will continue to play a critical role in cancer diagnosis and treatment. \nIn this P.A.C.E.-accredited webinar\, Brian Piening\, Phd\, will highlight the clinical and economic considerations for implementing an NGS-based personalized medicine program and discuss case studies that demonstrate the benefits of determining the genomic profiles of a variety of cancer types. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nEvaluate the process of deciding whether to implement NGS in a clinical pathology lab\nDescribe the available testing strategies and chemistries\nReview case studies in which NGS is uniquely suited to provide novel clinical insights\n\nPresenter: \n \nBrian Piening\, Ph.D. | Associate Director | Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) Molecular Genomics Laboratory | Assistant Member and Head of the Tumor Immunogenomics Laboratory | Earle A. Chiles Research Institute & Providence Cancer Center \nThis webinar is produced by Whitehat Communications\, a provder of continuing education programs i clinical laboratory sciences that has been approved by the ASCLS P.A.C.E.
