SUMMARY:"Sepsis Care Across the Continuum: A Virtual Collaborative Summit"
DESCRIPTION:Background: \nIn the United States\, 1.7 million adults develop sepsis each year\, and the condition accounts for 270\,000 deaths annually. It is the leading cause of death in U. S. Hospitals.¹ At more than $24 billion in hospital’s expenses\, this life-threatening illness was the most costly condition for hospital admissions. Cost and length of stay progressively increase with the severity of this illness\, making early detection and treatment critical components in any protocol.² Facilities that have developed solid protocols for early detection and treatment continue to struggle with transitioning care from unit to unit and from hospital to home. Strategic approaches that address care across the continuum will ensure effective and efficient treatment of this complex population. The goal of this two-day collaborative summit is to serve as a platform for participants to interact with peers and subject matter experts to learn best practices\, discuss the latest evidence and develop viable action plans for their health system to address early recognition and treatment of sepsis across the continuum of care. Participants can also expect to gain a network of peers engaged for continued interaction and learning. \nFormat: \nThe two-day Virtual Collaborative Summit* is unlike most industry meetings and conferences. It is a highly interactive workshop experience\, with participating health systems identifying small teams (4-5 leaders) who will complete a brief learning module before the summit to lay the groundwork for the virtual event. \n*Participating attendees must complete the pre-work and attend both sessions of the virtual event. \nTopics to be Addressed: \n\nSepsis Recognition: Tools and Systems\nStandardization of Care: Therapy\, Hemodynamic Support\, and Antibiotic Stewardship\nSepsis in Transition: Unit to Unit\, Hospital to Home\nQuality and Data Analytics: Using Data to Drive Change\n\nTarget Audience:  \nHealthTrust members are invited to send a team of 4-5 individuals from their health system to participate in the summit and identify representation from the following disciplines: lab\, pharmacy\, physicians\, nurses and clinical leadership. Space is limited to 40 attendees. Participants should be able to complete the self-driven learning module in advance as well as attend both days of the virtual event. \nAgenda:  \n\nMonday\, October 18: Virtual\, self-driven learning module delivered by email\nTuesday\, October 26:  8:00-10:30 AM\, CDT\nWednesday\, October 27:  1:00-4:00 PM\, CDT\n\nCost: There is no cost for HealthTrust members to attend this virtual event. \nQuestions:  Contact clinical.research@healthtrustpg.com with your questions or for more information. \n¹ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. SUMMARY:"Testing and Treatment of 2020-2021 Seasonal Influenza During the COVID-19 Pandemic"
DESCRIPTION:The CDC Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA)* presents...”Testing and Treatment of 2020-2021 Seasonal Influenza During the COVID-19 Pandemic” \nInfluenza surveillance data reported to the World Health Organization’s FluNet platform from three Southern Hemisphere countries (Australia\, Chile\, and South Africa) indicated low influenza activity during June through August 2020\, months that comprise the typical Southern Hemisphere influenza season. The low influenza activity observed in the Southern Hemisphere might reflect the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions implemented to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2\, the virus that causes COVID-19. However\, it is not possible to predict influenza activity or the severity of the upcoming influenza season in the United States with the potential for co-circulation of influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2. While vaccination remains the best way to prevent influenza\, antiviral medications are an essential adjunct to vaccination—especially for treating outpatients with suspected or confirmed influenza\, in persons at high risk for influenza complications\, in those with progressive disease\, and hospitalized influenza patients.\nDuring this COCA call\, clinicians will hear an overview of CDC’s recommendations for health care providers regarding influenza diagnostics and the use of antiviral medications for the 2020-2021 influenza season\, including considerations during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. \nLearning Objectives  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nReview influenza activity since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.\nProvide background on influenza tests and antivirals for influenza.\nDescribe influenza testing guidance for patients with acute respiratory illness for the 2020-2021 season\, including during community co-circulation of influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2.\nDescribe antiviral treatment recommendations for patients with suspected or confirmed influenza for the 2020-2021 season\, including during community co-circulation of influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2.\n\nPresenters: \nAngela Campbell\, MD\, MPH\, FIDSA\, FPIDS Medical Officer\, Influenza Division  |  National Center for Immunization & Respiratory Diseases  |  Centers for Disease Control & Prevention \nTimothy Uyeki\, MD\, MPH\, MPP\, CAPT\, USPHS   |Chief Medical Officer\, Influenza Division  |  National Center for Immunization & Respiratory Diseases  |  Centers for Disease Control & Prevention \nContinuing Education information: To receive continuing education (CE) for WC2922-091720 – Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA) Calls/Webinars – Testing and Treatment of 2020-2021 Seasonal Influenza During the COVID-19 Pandemic\, Thursday\, September 17\, 2020\, please visit TCEO and follow these 9 Simple Steps by Monday\, October 19\, 2020.  To receive continuing education (CE) for WD2922-091720 – Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA) Calls/Webinars – Testing and Treatment of 2020-2021 Seasonal Influenza During the COVID-19 Pandemic\, Thursday\, September 17\, 2020\, (Web on Demand)\, please visit TCEO and follow these 9 Simple Steps by Thursday\, October 20\, 2022. \nCME: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. SUMMARY:"Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy"
DESCRIPTION:  \nDownload a copy of this content. \nSupporting Documents & Procedures Checklists \nPlease Note: Continuing education credit is only available to those attending the session live. CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand. \nHealthTrust presents…“Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy” (Part 2 Update in the Maternal Morbidity & Mortality series) \nDespite a worldwide trend toward improvement in maternal morbidity and mortality\, rates in the U.S. have surged in recent years. Specifically\, the unacceptable rates of preventable adverse events in childbirth are topping 50 percent. A major reason for this tragic result is poor recognition and appropriate treatment of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy. This program will review the four major hypertensive disorders of obstetrics and focus on the rapid diagnosis and treatment of hypertensive emergencies—a major cause of maternal deaths. SUMMARY:"Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy"
DESCRIPTION:Download a copy of this content. \nAccess the recording. \nSupporting documents and procedures checklists. \nHealthTrust presents…“Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy” (Part 3 of 4 in the Maternal Morbidity & Mortality series) \nDespite a worldwide trend toward improvement in maternal morbidity and mortality\, rates in the U.S. have surged in recent years. A tailored\, multi-disciplinary approach including contributions from pharmacists\, nurses and lab clinicians is essential for successful outcomes in the treatment of hypertensive disorders. \nLearning Objectives  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nDescribe the four types of hypertension that can complicate pregnancy\nExplain the maternal and fetal complications that can result from hypertensive disorders of pregnancy\nRecall the evaluation\, diagnosis and management of hypertensive emergencies in pregnancy\nIdentify the benefits of utilizing an evidence-based care team approach to aid patients with hypertensive disorders\n\nPresenter: \n \nFrank R.
