SUMMARY:On-Demand Program: "Personal Protective Equipment: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You"
DESCRIPTION:3M*\, Aspen Surgical* and Pfiedler Education present…“Personal Protective Equipment: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You” \nEvery healthcare worker who cares for patients\, or supports the staff who care for patients\, will most likely need to use personal protective equipment (PPE) at some point during their work duties. Healthcare workers need to protect themselves from transmissible diseases\, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because\, unfortunately\, transmissible diseases are not going away\, it is important to learn how to don and doff PPE and to do it correctly every single time. \nThis learning activity will illustrate the proper use of PPE along with helping the learner to understand the rationale behind each action. \n\nDescribe the types of PPE\, differentiating between the levels of gowns and mask options that are available\nDiscuss standard precautions along with the three major categories of disease transmission and appropriate PPE for each\nSummarize the proper use of PPE and major points of donning and doffing to ensure maximum protection\n\nThis eLearning program is available at no cost. \nFunding provided by 3M*  |  Aspen Surgical* \nContinuing Nursing and Allied Health Education provided by Pfiedler Education.Earn 1 CE.CA:1.0\, CBSPD:1.0\, IAHCSM:1.0\, NCCT:1.0 \nQuestions? SUMMARY:On-Demand CE program: "Disaster Medicine: Sepsis"
DESCRIPTION:Sepsis Alliance* presents…”Disaster Medicine: Sepsis” \nCourse expires: date not available \nPopulations affected by disasters are exposed to a variety of health hazards such as trauma\, burns\, poor sanitation\, and mass sheltering\, all of which place them at increased risk of infection and sepsis. Under the resource-limited conditions typical of disaster zones\, the clinical identification and management of sepsis can be more challenging compared to normal operating conditions in conventional health care settings. This training module will provide guidance on how to recognize\, assess\, and evacuate patients with or at risk of sepsis in the context of disaster response. \nLearning Objectives  |  At the end of the program attendees should be able to: \n\nUnderstand the fundamentals of sepsis\, including its definition and basic pathophysiology\nRecognize sepsis in the field\nIdentify\, assess\, and prioritize at-risk patients as they arrive in the triage tent\nPromote\, during a disaster event\, the immediate intervention and stabilization of sepsis patients and those at highest risk of developing sepsis\nDescribe the preparation and process for rapidly stabilizing and evacuating the highest priority patients under austere conditions\n\nTarget Audience: This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of emergency responders\, disaster medicine teams\, including within U.S. Government\, emergency planners\, facility managers\, occupational health and safety personnel\, nurses\, physicians\, pharmacists\, and other healthcare staff. \nPresenters: \n \nRuna Gokhale\, M.D. MPH  |  Medical Officer  | Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion  |  Centers for Disease Control & Prevention \n \nRichard Catherina\, M.D.  |  Senior Medical Officer\, National Disaster Medical System\, Asst. SUMMARY:"Sepsis Care Across the Continuum: A Virtual Collaborative Summit"
DESCRIPTION:Background: \nIn the United States\, 1.7 million adults develop sepsis each year\, and the condition accounts for 270\,000 deaths annually. It is the leading cause of death in U. S. Hospitals.¹ At more than $24 billion in hospital’s expenses\, this life-threatening illness was the most costly condition for hospital admissions. Cost and length of stay progressively increase with the severity of this illness\, making early detection and treatment critical components in any protocol.² Facilities that have developed solid protocols for early detection and treatment continue to struggle with transitioning care from unit to unit and from hospital to home. Strategic approaches that address care across the continuum will ensure effective and efficient treatment of this complex population. The goal of this two-day collaborative summit is to serve as a platform for participants to interact with peers and subject matter experts to learn best practices\, discuss the latest evidence and develop viable action plans for their health system to address early recognition and treatment of sepsis across the continuum of care. Participants can also expect to gain a network of peers engaged for continued interaction and learning. \nFormat: \nThe two-day Virtual Collaborative Summit* is unlike most industry meetings and conferences. It is a highly interactive workshop experience\, with participating health systems identifying small teams (4-5 leaders) who will complete a brief learning module before the summit to lay the groundwork for the virtual event. \n*Participating attendees must complete the pre-work and attend both sessions of the virtual event. \nTopics to be Addressed: \n\nSepsis Recognition: Tools and Systems\nStandardization of Care: Therapy\, Hemodynamic Support\, and Antibiotic Stewardship\nSepsis in Transition: Unit to Unit\, Hospital to Home\nQuality and Data Analytics: Using Data to Drive Change\n\nTarget Audience:  \nHealthTrust members are invited to send a team of 4-5 individuals from their health system to participate in the summit and identify representation from the following disciplines: lab\, pharmacy\, physicians\, nurses and clinical leadership. Space is limited to 40 attendees. Participants should be able to complete the self-driven learning module in advance as well as attend both days of the virtual event. \nAgenda:  \n\nMonday\, October 18: Virtual\, self-driven learning module delivered by email\nTuesday\, October 26:  8:00-10:30 AM\, CDT\nWednesday\, October 27:  1:00-4:00 PM\, CDT\n\nCost: There is no cost for HealthTrust members to attend this virtual event. \nQuestions:  Contact clinical.research@healthtrustpg.com with your questions or for more information. \n¹ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
