“Antibiotic Stewardship in Surgical Site Infections & Wounds”

WoundSource* presents…”Antibiotic Stewardship in Surgical Site Infections & Wounds

In 2020, outpatient wound clinics must have an antibiotic stewardship program in place. Preventing infection in surgical wounds is vital for positive patient outcomes; however, the diagnosis of moderate to heavy bacterial load in surgical wounds is problematic: clinical signs and symptoms and cultures can be inaccurate.

This program will describe the recent technological advances that improve the diagnosis of bacterial load in surgical wounds and incorporation of this technology into an antibiotic stewardship program.

This program will review the problem of bacterial burden in surgical wounds, present data on the point-of-care optical detection of bacteria from two clinical trials and discuss the development of an antibiotic stewardship program.

The development of an antibiotic stewardship program in the outpatient wound care center is essential in preventing the further rise of antibiotic resistance. Point-of-care diagnostics that improve clinical examination play an important role in stewardship.

This webinar will:

  • Describe the role of bacteria in surgical wounds
  • Critique clinical trial data on the optical detection of bacteria in surgical wounds
  • Develop a comprehensive antimicrobial stewardship program
