CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand. \nProcalcitonin is a nonspecific biomarker that is often elevated in response to systemic inflammation such as that caused by bacterial infections. Procalcitonin has potential use as an aid in the diagnosis of sepsis\, predictor of disease severity and outcomes\, and to help guide antimicrobial therapy. Procalcitonin levels <0.25ng/mL indicate the initiation of antibiotics is strongly discouraged. Due to the limitations of specificity\, its diagnostic role in infections is controversial.
