SUMMARY:"Who's the Real Alfa? Andexanet Alfa versus 4F-PCC for Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOAC) Reversal"
DESCRIPTION:HealthTrust presents…“Who’s the Real Alfa? Andexanet Alfa versus 4F-PCC for Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOAC) Reversal” \n \nDownload the content \nPlease Note: Continuing education credit is only available to those attending the session live. CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand. \nBefore approval of andexanet alfa (Andexxa)\, off-label treatment with 4-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC) was the unquestioned first line therapy for the management of life-threatening hemorrhages related to the use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC). The approval of Andexxa sparked an ongoing debate among clinicians regarding which agent should be used for reversal of life-threatening hemorrhages associated with oral factor Xa inhibitors. Even the agents considered the safest such as rivaroxaban and apixaban come with significant risk. These agents are associated with intracranial bleeding rates of up to 4% and in-hospital mortality rates of up to 40%. As the use of these DOACs becomes more prevalent\, there needs to be a clear and concise recommendation regarding reversal of these agents. Current literature will be presented around which option is the safest and most effective for reversal of hemorrhage related to these products\, so that attendees can make an informed decision on which option is the safest and most effective for reverasal of hemorrhage related to these products. \nLearning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nRecall the mechanisms of action of four-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC) and andexanet alfa\nIdentify the outcomes of studies utilizing 4F-PCC and andexanet alfa for direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) reversal\nDescribe the pros and cons of 4F-PCC and andexanet alfa use in DOAC reversal\n\nPresenter: \n \nHarrison Hyman\, PharmD  |  PGY-1 Resident  |  McLeod Health \nTarget Audience: Pharmacists\, Nurses &  Physicians \nCE Credit: Approved for Pharmacists &  Nurses \nThis program is approved for CPEs by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
