SUMMARY:“Antithrombotic Agents in the Medical Management of Patients with Valvular Disease"
DESCRIPTION:HealthTrust presents…“Antithrombotic Agents in the Medical Management of Patients with Valvular Disease” \n \n  \nDownload the content. \nPlease Note: Continuing education credit is only available to those attending the session live. CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand. \nThe choice of antithrombotic agent after valve replacement has grown increasingly more complex as new data emerges and additional studies produce varying results. Guidelines regarding antithrombotic strategies in patients with valve replacement are continuously updating\, with more caveats as to whether certain antithrombotic agents are preferred in specific patient populations. The topic of which antithrombotic agent is most appropriate for the patient is a holistic approach\, with considerations of the patient’s potential for bleeding events and their risk factors for cardioembolic events. This session will focus on the use of antithrombotic agents for the medical management of patients with valvular disease who have received a valve replacement with guidelines to assess the risks and benefits of available therapies to determine a patient-specific regimen with a guideline-recommended international normalised ratio (INR) goal for monitoring purposes. \nLearning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses   |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nRecall current guideline recommendations on the use of antithrombotic agents in the medical management of patients with valve replacement procedures\nIdentify thrombotic risk based on valve position and type of valve utilized in patients with valve replacement procedures\nRecognize the optimal antithrombotic agent and duration of therapy for patients postvalve replacement to balance incidences of thromboembolic and bleeding events\n\nLearning Objectives for Pharmacy Techs   |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nRecall current guideline recommendations on the use of antithrombotic agents in the medical management of patients with valve replacement procedures\nIdentify potential drug and food interactions with antithrombotic agents\nRecognize common antithrombotic agents and duration of therapy for patients postvalve replacement\n\nPresenter: \n \nMallory McClung\, PharmD  |  PGY1 Pharmacy Resident  |  Princeton Baptist Medical Center  |  Birmingham\, AL \nTarget Audience: Pharmacists\, Pharmacy Techs & Nurses \nCE Credit: Approved for Pharmacists\, Pharmacy Techs & Nurses \nThis program is approved for CPEs by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
