SUMMARY:Clinical Considerations: Myocarditis and Pericarditis after Receipt of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines Among Adolescents and Young Adults
DESCRIPTION:The CDC Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA)* presents…Clinical Considerations: Myocarditis and Pericarditis after Receipt of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines Among Adolescents and Young Adults \nSince April 2021\, increased cases of myocarditis and pericarditis have been reported in the United States after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is aware of these reports\, which are rare given the number of vaccine doses administered. \nCDC published clinical considerations for myocarditis and pericarditis following COVID-19 vaccination. In addition\, resources for the public have been added to CDC’s website that can be a resource for your patients. CDC and its partners are actively monitoring these reports by reviewing data and medical records to learn more about what happened and to see if there is any relationship to COVID-19 vaccination. Please report all cases of myocarditis and pericarditis post COVID-19 vaccination to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). \nCDC continues to recommend COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 12 years of age and older\, given the greater risk of COVID-19 illness and related\, possibly severe complications. \nQuestions? Contact the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention: 1-800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636)   TTY: 888-232-6348 \n* NOTE: This is an industry resource and/or supplier-sponsored publication. CE credit is not available when accessing the program on demand. \nHealthTrust presents…“What’s New in HIV? Highlights and New Data on HIV Treatment” \nHuman immunodeficiency virus (HIV) treatment has dramatically evolved over the past three decades. The dedicated research on HIV/AIDS has led to great discoveries and advances in the management of HIV. The availability of the new antiretroviral agents has allowed clinicians to design an appropriate patient-specific treatment plan. Pharmacists can make a huge difference in the management of HIV/AIDS. However\, many pharmacists feel uncomfortable with their knowledge in the area of HIV. Staying up to date about the latest recommendations and newly available drugs is often challenging for many pharmacy professionals. Current knowledge gaps include understanding the role of the new antiretroviral agents and their place in therapy when managing patients with HIV/AIDS. The presenter will review these new antiretroviral agents in detail by discussing their place in therapy\, side effects\, monitoring\, counseling pearls and literature behind their use. \nLearning Objectives for Pharmacists & Nurses  |  At the end of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nIdentify new antiretroviral agents and their role in the management of HIV/AIDS.\nDescribe a two‐drug regimen for treatment‐naive individuals and factors to consider when selecting an initial regimen for an individual.\nOutline key counseling points to a patient receiving new antiretroviral agents related to drug administration\, potential side effects and drug‐drug interactions.\n\nPresenter: \n \nShivani Patel\, PharmD  |  PGY‐1 Pharmacy Resident  |  Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital \nTarget Audience:  Nurses & Pharmacists \nContinuing Education Information: 1.0 contact hours approved for Nurses and Pharmacists. SUMMARY:"Better Is Possible"
DESCRIPTION:O&M & Gojo Industries* present…“Better Is Possible” \nHand hygiene is important\, most would agree. Yet hand hygiene performance is still suboptimal in most healthcare facilities. Historically\, the focus of hand hygiene improvement has been on the behavior of frontline healthcare workers\, and training and education of frontline healthcare workers is usually a first- line countermeasure for improvement. While a baseline level of knowledge is necessary\, it is largely insufficient to change ingrained hand hygiene habits. During this webinar\, we will discuss how healthcare facilities can benefit from examining hand hygiene as a systems or process problem rather than strictly a people problem. \nLearning Objectives  |  At the end of this session participants should be able to: \n\nDefine the ‘Trap of Understanding’ and recognize how it can inhibit progress in hand hygiene improvement\nExplain the importance of shifting the focus from hand hygiene behavior of healthcare workers to include the systems and processes that contribute to those behaviors\nDescribe how defining and measuring action-based leading indicators can help improve hand hygiene performance results\n\nPresenter: Lori Moore\, MPH\, BSN\, RN\, CPPS | Clinical Educator\, Healthcare  |  GOJO Industries\, Inc. \nTarget Audience: Nurses and other healthcare professionals \nContinuing Education: Nursing professionals can earn 1.0 contact hours for the completion of this program. GOJO Industries\, Inc. is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing\, Provider Number 15940 \, for 1.0 contact hour. \nThis program is sponsored by Owens & Minor\, Inc.& Gojo Industries\, Inc. \nQuestions should be directed to Owens & Minor: contactrequest@owens-minor.com; (804) 723-7000 \n*NOTE: This is a contracted supplier-sponsored webinar.
