Due to a lack of adequate education and awareness, there sometimes exists a level of discomfort among pharmacists in playing an active role in post cardiac arrest targeted temperature management (TTM). This session will provide an overview of the targeted temperature management post cardiac arrest, with an emphasis on the mechanism of benefit, clinical use and effective management of medications throughout the process. The presenter will include an overview of the process, review of current literature, guideline recommendations, a detailed overview of the medications used in the process, and information on appropriately managing side effects.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the rationale behind the process of post cardiac arrest TTM
  2. Analyze evidence-based recommendations on the use of medications during the process
  3. List the side effects of each medication involved in post cardiac arrest TTM
