One of the hottest healthcare topics of the past decade has been drug shortages. There are very few issues with such broad
implications for healthcare operations and patient care. With the help of its advisory boards, HealthTrust has worked over the past 3
years to develop a strategy that can insulate its members from drug shortages for specific products. This presentation will discuss
HealthTrust’s philosophy on why drug shortages occur and how that philosophy resulted in the creation of the Supply Interruption
Mitigation Strategies (SIMS) program.
