HealthTrust presents…“High Reliability & Safety in Obstetrics: A Life-saving Approach” (Part 1 of 4 in the Maternal Morbidity & Mortality series)

The proportion of women who experienced serious complications while giving birth in U.S. hospitals rose drastically between 2006 and 2015. The difference in healthcare provider beliefs about autonomy, teamwork and administrative operations have added to the complexity of healthcare delivery and are a central factor in medicine’s unacceptably high rate of errors. It is important to recognize that standardization is necessary, but not always sufficient for achieving resilient and reliable healthcare systems. This presentation offers a specific pathway to significantly decrease the epidemic of maternal mortality and morbidity in the United States. The presenter will focus on practical concepts for highly reliable, effective team collaboration to deliver safer care to obstetrics patients.

Learning Objectives  |  At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss the concept of high reliability that could be replicated
    at any healthcare organization
  2. Explain the foundations of team culture as it relates to institutions that
    prioritize patient safety
  3. Define the pillars upon which highly reliable clinical systems of care are built
