This presentation provides a brief history on neonatal abstinence syndrome and national data related to incidence. The presenter will talk about the impact this nationwide rising occurrence is having on healthcare providers and hospitals. An in-depth review of the growing body of evidence supporting breast milk and breastfeeding as positive support for improving outcomes for NAS babies will be covered. The session will also explore regulatory recommendations, and briefly discuss national and state programs as solutions to prevent opioid use disorder in pregnancy.
