William W. Hay, Jr., M.D. discusses the underlying physiology that places intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) and macrosomic infants at risk for metabolic syndrome later in life. After discussing the risks of rapid weight gain in IUGR and macrosomic infants, Dr. Hay examines how perinatal nutrition can reduce the risk of future disease.
