“Capnography: It’s About More Than Ventilation!”

This program is the third in a series of four webinars focused on cardiac resuscitation. Ms. Kupchik will discuss the 2015 American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) specific to Continuous Waveform Capnography. Topics will also include a physiologic understanding of CO2 production, transport and metabolism and the effect on the ventilation/perfusion relationship. Clinical indicators for Capnography to be discussed include using EtCO2 as a marker of perfusion for fluid responsiveness, CPR effectiveness and identification of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC).

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the 2015 AHA Guidelines for ACLS and BLS specific to Continuous Waveform Capnography.
  2. Discuss normal and abnormal ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) relationships.
  3. Describe Capnography as an indicator or fluid responsiveness.
  4. Discuss the integration of Capnography into a resuscitation program.
