Good disinfection and sterilization practices are critical to safe patient care and successful procedures. Device reprocessing is complicated and procedures and requirements can vary widely based on the instrument. This program is designed as a comprehensive primer for those with limited reprocessing experience and a thorough, helpful review for those with more experience. The program will cover key aspects of the relevant guidelines, identify key challenges and pitfalls, and suggest solutions to help ensure successful, compliant reprocessing in an engaging and interactive format. The program is intended for health care professionals responsible for cleaning, disinfection and or sterilization of reusable medical devices and equipment. This includes surgical assistants and technicians, endoscopy nurses and technicians or associates, medical assistants, dental assistants and nurse managers or administrators who supervise reprocessing staff.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand basic principles of sterilization and disinfection of medical devices
  2. Review recommended quality control procedures and best practice guidelines for sterilization and disinfection processes
  3. Understand potential causes of process failures and review best practices for troubleshooting
  4. Review flexible endoscope reprocessing challenges and recommended practice

Target audience: Healthcare professionals responsible for cleaning, disinfection and or sterilization of reusable medical devices and equipment, including surgical assistants and technicians, endoscopy nurses and technicians or associates, medical assistants, dental assistants and nurse managers or administrators who supervise reprocessing staff

CE Contact Hours:

  • 4.0 Contact Hours approved by the CBSPD Certification Board
  • 4.0 Contact Hours approved by IAHCSMM
  • 3M Health Care Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nurses
  • CEP 5770 for RNs for 4.0 Contact Hours

Fees, Food & Parking: There is no fee to attend. Continental breakfast, break refreshments and a box lunch is included. While the program is free, attendees are responsible for any parking fees.
