3 On-demand Credit Programs: Biofilms

NACCME* presents 3 On-Demand Programs

CREDIT FOR EACH OF THESE 3, one-hour PROGRAMS EXPIRES ON Aug. 30, 2020

  1. “Demystifying the Nature of Biofilms

Register here.

Learning Objectives  |  At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

      1. Review where biofilm fits into the “bioburden spectrum” of contamination, colonization, critical colonization and infection
      2. Explain how chronic inflammation leads to elevated protease, reactive oxygen species and impaired healing
      3. Differentiate between planktonic and biofilm bacteria tolerance to antibiotics and antimicrobials
      4. Explore the polymicrobial nature of wound biofilms

Presenters: Garth James, Ph.D. & Gregory Schultz, Ph.D.

2. “Approaches to Biofilm-associated Infections: Evaluating Gaps in Standardized Methods for Clinical Applications”

Register here.

Learning Objectives  |  At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

      1. Investigate gaps in evidence for standardized methodological approaches of biofilm models, which can lead to disparities between testing condition.
      2. Explore the issues that need to be considered in developing performance standards for anti-biofilm therapeutics
      3. Examine approaches to evaluating existing new antibiofilm technology for chronic wound care

Presenters: Abdul Hamood, Ph.D., Garth James, Ph.D. & Paul Stoodley, Ph.D.

3. “Integrating Emerging Research Into Biofilm Management

Register here.

Learning Objectives  |  At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

      1. Investigate emerging research regarding the paradigm shift from simply killing surface bacteria to penetrating the biofilm’s EPS
      2. Examine the clinical and economic advantages of leveraging biofilm-disrupting technology
      3. Assess the efficacy of a novel biofilm disruption therapy in the treatment of chronic wounds compared to standard of care
      4. Explore cases for the use of a high osmolarity biofilm disrupting surfactant to decrease bioburden and inflammation in non-healing chronic wounds

Presenters: Matthew Regulski, DPM & Susie Seaman, NP, MSN, CWOCN

Expiration Date: August 30, 2020

Target audience: These activities are designed for physicians, podiatrists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants involved in the treatment of patients with chronic wounds.

Continuing Education Information  |  1.0 contact hours for Physicians, Podiatrists, Nurses & Physician Assistants (CME, CNE, CPME). These on-demand webcasts are available with synchronized slides and audio. In order to be eligible for documentation of credit, participants must complete the pre-test, attend the full webinar, complete the 10-question post-test with a score of 70% or better, and complete the evaluation form. After successful completion of the post-test and evaluation form online at www.naccme.com, participants may immediately print their documentation of credit.

There is no fee associated with these activities.

Questions should be directed to 609-371-1137.

Supported by an educational grant from Next Science.
